Suggestions that will make a
difference:

READ every day - whether you read together with your child, have them read to you, you to them ....

Practice MATH FACTS every day - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
Your child should know basic math facts without hesitating (5 seconds/fact - no fingers).
In the younger grades, please practice facts that have been introduced.

Multiplication.com has great games for practicing speed and fluency

WRITE every day/week - think about starting a journal or diary;
sending postcards to family and friends;
thank you notes for birthday, Christmas or any special occasions...
