Olweus Bullying Prevention Program

From our Superintendent, Dr. Anthony Cook III:

Dear Diocese of Rochester Families,

Our Catholic school community deeply values the safety and well-being of all of our children. We want to make sure each Catholic school is a nurturing place for students to learn and grow as people of God. All Diocesan schools have implemented the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program to address bullying behavior.

The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) is the most researched and best known bullying prevention program available today. OBPP has been proven to prevent and reduce bullying. The goals of OBPP are to reduce bullying problems and prevent new bullying problems from happening. The program also works to create stronger relationships among students. The QBPP is a proactive approach for all students, not just those who are being bullied or who are bullying others.

Parents and guardians play a key role in the success of this program. Your child will be asked to tell an adult at school and at home if he or she is bullied or sees bullying happening at school. It will be very important that you take any instances of bullying seriously and tell your Catholic school staff.

Bullying should not be seen as “kids being kids” or something that students just need to deal with. Having a safe school
experience is something that all students should be able to enjoy.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact your school OBPP Team Leader or principal. I thank you for your commitment to the well-being of all of our children.

May God bless your families.
Anthony S. Cook Ill
Superintendent
