"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you."

September

Religion: We will begin learning about Jesus and how to be kind to everyone!  Jesus loved the little children.  We are all children of God and should love one another as we love ourselves.

ELA: Welcome Back Superkids: We will joyfully begin our journey with the Superkids!  We will review everything we learned in Kindergarten and then jump into First Grade Reading and Writing.  We will be doing Literacy Centers each day.  During this time the children will work in small groups to practice what they have learned!  This is a very exciting time.

Math: Different Ways to Make 10: Children will learn ALL the different ways to make 10!  They will also practice their math facts to 20 each day and enjoy working with manipulatives.

Social Studies: American Families Today and in the Past- Children will explore the idea that people and places change over time. They will trace a family history, a community history, and examine our country's history - from the Native Americans and Columbus's voyage to the Pilgrims as early settlers. In addition, children will explore ways we celebrate historical events, the lives of some historical figures, and ways technology has changed our lives.

Science: Sun, Moon, and Stars-We'll be learning that Earth, the planet on which we live, is just one of many different celestial bodies within the solar system. We'll learn how the sun, the stars, the moon, and the other planets relate to the earth. We'll also learn about the earth's orbit around the sun, and how the earth's own rotation on its axis leads to our day and night.

Health: We'll be recognizing rules as helpful for staying safe and healthy. We'll recognize the steps to take during an emergency, including how and when to call '911', and will be identifying characteristics of a stranger and how to seek help from a trusted adult.
